Jobim’s Corcovado was an impromptu addition to the programme. I didn’t
have an encore up my sleeve (since we had exceeded the alloted time by
20 mintues) and when one was needed, I suggested the song on a whim,
as we made our way back to the stage to take our final bows. Needless to
say, we had never played this tune as a group and what is heard on this
CD is the first run.

It has that marvellous quality that is often inherent in the unexpected. It was a ‘throw away’ tune, in a sense, and as a result, this performance possesses a freshness and abandon that is impossible to achieve through planning or conscious effort. Maybe, it was the elusive ‘Duende’ lending a helping hand.
